Revitalization in Motion: One Year Later

📰 Revitalization in Motion: One Year Later — And Still Fighting for Our Future

It’s been one full year since our last blog post—and what a year it has been for the Historic Commercial Center District. While our social media has been buzzing, our events have been thriving, and new businesses have joined our community, the deeper story is one of vision, resistance, and renewal.

We are proud of our progress. But we also remain vigilant—because the threats of eminent domain abuse and forced redevelopment still hang over our heads. And we are not staying silent.

✨ What We’ve Accomplished Since July 2024

🎥 Documentary in Progress:
Our upcoming film “Saved by the Seagulls: The Commercial Center Story” is well underway, telling the story of a neighborhood that refuses to be erased. Directed by Paula Sadler, it documents our past, present, and vision for the future.

🎉 61st Anniversary Celebration (September 11, 2024):
We welcomed residents, tourists, and business owners to celebrate our legacy with guided tours, music, and community pride. And we’re already planning to mark 62 years of community resilience this coming September 11, 2025.

🎨 Art, Culture, and Healing:
We restored murals, expanded the Art Walk, hosted a juried art competition focused on cultural identity, and continued the Free Park & Art Las Vegas initiative.

📰 Media Coverage:
From FOX5 and 8 News Now to Channel 8 and the Commercial Center Vibe podcast, our story is reaching thousands. Local journalists have spotlighted our battle for survival and our role in shaping midtown Las Vegas.

🤝 Community Action:
We’ve attended Clark County commissioner meetings, reviewed Gensler’s redevelopment plans, launched new flyers and campaigns, and hosted dozens of events from UNLV promotions to live entertainment at The Composer’s Room.

🛑 Still Under Threat: The Fight Against Eminent Domain Abuse

Even with all this progress, Clark County continues to pursue redevelopment plans that would allow them to take property from long-standing small businesses under the guise of “blight.”

Let us be clear:
🔴 We are not blighted. We are blooming.
🔴 We have invested in this community when others abandoned it.
🔴 We will not be displaced without a fight.

This isn’t just about buildings. It’s about people, legacies, and justice.

Since 2005, Paula Sadler and the CCBA have opposed these harmful designations and policies, demanding transparency, fair treatment, and a seat at the table. The county’s failure to maintain parking lots and lighting has been weaponized as an excuse for displacement. But we see through the tactics.

📈 Our Vision Going Forward (2025–2026)

🗣️ A Message from Paula Sadler, Founder

“They called us blighted. But we are blooming.
We’re not just saving buildings—we’re protecting stories, dreams, and generations of small businesses who made Las Vegas beautiful. If we don’t speak now, our future will be written without us.”
