Our Seagull Mascot is our Symbol of Healing, Hope, & Harmony!

C.C. came to us through Paula Sadler, A short time after moving into Commercial Center as it was known then, in July 2004, to open her Beauty Salon, she noticed a family of seagulls had taken up residence at Commercial Center-finding it odd, she took photos, and video and wondered where they came from and what do they mean? She thought, did they come from the Country Club, Lake Mead, Maybe? She thought they must have come far, from somewhere cold to winter in Vegas. But why Commercial Center?

She used her knowledge of Animal Totems through her native heritage and referring to Animal Speak by Author Ted Andrews and took to heart their message that it was time for Environemtal cleanup and their ability to stimulate non-verbal communication. She later formed the Commercial Center business Association in late 2005, Officially Launching August 2006.

Thus began the journey of neighborhood cleanup and Beautification. First, she adopted the seagull as the Commerical Center Business Association Logo, then later in 2007 commissioned Artist Howard Freeman to make a rendering for a brochure. Her inspiration and passion was inspired and driven by this colony of birds, Gulls are known to travel up to 6,000 miles to their winter grounds.

Today The Colony Still winters in Commercial Center, we eagerly await their return every year. We honor CC with this beautiful Illustration by Howard Freeman, photos and Video by Paula Sadler. We invite you to join us every winter for a Seagull Spotting, Early Sunrise to noon are the best time for photos and video.

Please consider a donation to The Commercial Center Historic Society to help us with upkeep of our area and keep Commerical Center a winter home for our little friends.

Story From Paula Sadler-4/21/2023

we are so grateful for this beautiful family of Seagulls that we have been documenting since 2004, every year around winter time they come to stay for a few months this year they stayed a little longer due to the extra cold winter we were having, they helped to stimulate the neighborhood cleanup project that started in 2006 by Paula Sadler and Commercial Center Business Association that she founded, Ted Andrews in his book animal speaks talks about the powerful totem medicine that the seagull brains and what they symbolize and when they arrive it’s time for ecological cleanup and they stimulate nonverbal communication. Sadler took this as a sign to start working in the neighborhood and with a neighborhood cleanup project that was the nonverbal communication and began to Rebrand provide new social media websites cleaning weeding graffiti removal trash pickup advertising security new phone lines and getting people to network together any reaching out to the various government agencies for help and assistance it has been such a great success and wonderful to see our commercial center revitalized and better than it’s ever been. the rich history of serving Las Vegas since 1963 as we enter our sixtieth year of operation is no small feat in Las Vegas it’s actually quite a miracle. we invite our neighbors friends fans followers scribers to come down and check out the currently over 150 businesses open with over one dozen wonderful restaurants and so many more new openings and happenings #seagull #neighborhood #cleanup #momandpopshop #holistichealing

More on the Seagull

From Namaste.com Seagull: Spiritual Messengers
Seagulls are messengers from the gods, especially ancient Celtic deities. They bridge the gap between the
living world and the spirit world. Opening yourself to their energy enables you to communicate with the other
side. Seagull can also give you the ability to soar above your problems and see things from above. Seeing all
the different viewpoints.

The Miracle of The Gulls-Wikipedia

The miracle of the gulls is an 1848 event often credited by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (“Mormons“) for saving the Mormon pioneers‘ second harvest in the Salt Lake Valley. While absent in contemporary accounts,[1] later accounts claimed seagulls miraculously saved the 1848 crops by eating thousands of insects that were devouring their fields. The first crop was planted in 1847 a few days after the pioneers entered the valley, which was very late in the growing season and produced a meager but usable harvest. Next spring, using seed from the first harvest, they planted their second crop, only to watch in dismay as the crickets attacked. Less than two years earlier, in October 1846, many of them were saved by quail that flew into their camp, on their trek to the Great Salt Lake and made available as food.[2]
